Orr waited on the board, on behalf of a number of ratepayers, and asked members to try and get two water-races on Lis-more-Mayfield done away with or piped. They said nothing had been done to the crossings for a very long time, and.they were a nuisance on account'of their depth.—The clerk said lie had always been of the opinion that all piping should be in the centre of the road, and not less than 20 feet wide. This would bo more convenient for traffic and save a good deal in the cost of maintaining approaches to narrow culverts at tho side where the turning to get 011 cut up the ground—The Chairman said he had been of tho same opinion for a considerable time past.— The Clerk was instructed to apply to the County Council for pipes for these races and another below Anama. '"'".
Mr Fleming also wished the board to inspect a shingle reserve leased by him, with a view to some arrangement being made as to renewing or repairing fences, etc.—Mr Allan was appointed to attend to this matter. It was decided to accept Mr King's offer of a site for shingle on the Hinds-Rangitata Road, also to form about 20 chains of Anderson's Road, near Mayfield, as requested by settlers in the locality.
