SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S FINANCES.
ADELAIDE, September 22: In the 1 Legislative Assembly tho Treasurer delivered his 'Budget. The year ended with a deficit of £38-1,405), which, with the previous year's deficit, makes a,-total deficit of £864,857. The estimated rovenuo for tho current year is £5,337,998, ,and and tho anticipated surplus, £2209. It is proposed to increase the Land*-Tax to Id in tho pound, and to reduce the income- tax exemption to'(£ls6, "with exemption to. men on active service, and to.increase the probate and succession duties^
Coldktreams and the Grenadiers/ and all advanced until they were yardsfrom their starting-point. It then. became necessary to call a halt, as many officers and men had fallen. Tho British troops on the right had been held ud, and the Guards' fiank was. exposed. The temptation to go further was great, as tne German infantry were on the run and were dragging guns away, but the^r machine-gunners kept to their posts to safeguard against a rout. The Guards wisely decided to dig in. The Germans launched counter-attacks throughout the night, but they were annihilated."
