HONOURS FOR NEW ZEALANDERS.
FOR GALLANT CONDUCT
(Received September 23, 11.5 a.m.) ■■■'. LONDON, September 22. New Zealand Military Crosses have been awarded to the following:— Captain John Cowles, of tho KiHe Brigade, for gallantly leading a raid m which 33 of the enemy wero killed and, only seven New Zealandcrs were wounded. ' _.- Captain Alfred Powley of the Rifle Brigade, During a trench raid, though his paxty was heavily encumbered by 80 wounded, one dead, and nine prisoners, Powley got them all in safely. Lieut. Phillip Ellis, of the Field Artillery, for assisting in removing a kiree amount of ammunition and high oxplosivca- when a gun emplacement became ignited; he also removed the gun and prevented the spread ot the I fire though he was under shell-fire all | the' time and his ewn ammunition was CXLieut ngEaward Kibblcwhite, the Wellington Regiment/ who Uwk command when his senior ofheer was injured, rallied his men, and drove out tho onomv from advanced positions. * Distinguished-Conduct Medals have boon awarded to the following : _- Private Frost, of the Wellington Regiment, for assisting an officer to cover the withdrawal of raiders; he also twice passed over the enemy s wire and rescued two wounded. Private McCormick Nimmo, ot the Rifle Brigade, for bringing in wounded under heavy fire. - „ ... , Private Potter, of the Wellington Regiment, for gallantly leading the way in a raid on an enemy trench.
