The weather has been fairly dry 'lately, and farmers would like a little more rain. Most people have got- their crops in, and the area appears to be about t\v* &ajne as usual. Lambing has commenced, and, favoured by the fine weather, has been very .successful. A start has been made at the local shear-ing-shed, where some sheer) are being shorn. Tho Railway Department has finished tho now hoxvici for the stationmaster. It is a well-finished, up-to-date, house, j and is an. acquisition to the district. The old house has been removed, and the men are engaged in improving the station, buildings and building a porter's room.. A dock on the platform side is very much needed. ;Tho Road Hoard is having a part of the rood leading to tho Rangitata 1 Bridge shingled. Tho loose shingle on tho road near tho Hinds Bridge is still a source of much annoyance to motor- ' ists. . : .• . ' • ■V -The Hinds branch of the Red Cross Society has now 56 members, and has jjosi'sent away £3 18s 6d for the Sailors' Christmas bags. The school children have sent away 83 articles for the *ame purpose, and since April have made 180 articles for the Red Cross Society. „ Some ladies, headed by Mrs J. Farrell, have inaugurated a scheme to j raise mon-^y for improvements to Hinds | Hall: A-bready nearly £4 has been raised for this worthy object.
