TOWN BOARD ELECTIONS.

HAMPSTEAD.

The ratepayers of Hampstead took a fair amount of interest yesterday in the biennial election of seven commissioners to represent them on the Town Board, people going to the poll as against 195 at the previous election. In addition, tho ratepayers were asked to vote upon a proposal to raise a loan of £7000 for tho purpose of channelling. The proposal, however, did not find favour with the majority of ratepayers,and was lost by 23 votes; the voting being 86 for to 109 against. Seven commissioners were required, and the following were elected:—

Votes. William .Henry Robinson ... 194 William Stewart Kerr ... 180 George William Searle ... 170 William Thompson ... 164 Philip John Baker- ... 160 Henry Percy Evans 149 William James Cunningham 142 The following wero the defeated,can didates:—Richard Frederick Lewis (129 ,votes), and Alfred Megson (57 votes). There were no informal votes. The new member on the board is Mr H. P. Evans, who replaces Mr > A Lloyd, who did not contest the election. ■ ' . A large number of Hampstead residents assembled outside the Hampstead School to await' the results of the poll, which were announced at 8.30 p.m.

Mr W. Robinson, who headed the poll, thanked the electors for again having placed their confidence in him. He assured them that in accordance xin+h his policy in the past, he would still continue to do what he considered to be his duty. He hoped that at the next election they would still have the same confidence in him aB they had shown that day.

Mr v W. S. Kerr said he looked upon it as a great honour to be placed second on the list. He assured the ratepayers that he would always do his best to serve them.

Mr H. P. Evans, the new member, said it gave him great pleasure ,nnrl n snrnrip-p to know that he had polled so woll. He hoped to be able to show tlint he had merited the confidence of. t.hnso who bad voted for him.
