STRONG FORTIFICATIONS TAKEN.
MOUQUET FARM CAPTURED.
(Received September 18, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, September 17. Sir Douglas Haig reports:— We achieved further successes south of the Ancro and extended our gains on Saturday eYoning on a front of 1000 yards, in the vicinity of Courcellette. We obtained considerable success on Saturday evening in. the neighbourhood of Thiepval, capturing the fortification known as the " Danube trench,' on a front of a mile. The Germans here abandoned considerable quantities of rifles and equipment. •We also captured the stronglydefended work known as Mouquet Farm, the possession of which has been hotly contested for weeks.
