Swimming Notes.

(by plunger.) The Bath presents a very lively appearance jtaat now. Many swimmers are in training in view of the Carnival next Wednesday which promises to be as large as any gathering held here, and the public may look forward to an enjoyable f-utiog anil a good day's sport. Amongst chose I noticed on ray visits were T. brubb, who is without doubt one of the swiftest svimmers in the Club, with a splendid side stroke. Upton has a very powerful side stroke, and ia in my opinion the crack of the Club T. Pauling has a grand breast stroke, with plenty of power, but is on the Blow side ; I would advise him to try the aide stroke H. Curtis has improved this year, and will go very near winning the Challenge Cup. W. Barns, who has practised regularly this *eason, is not up to last year's form ; he has a fair breast stroke, but appears to lack staying quality. E. E. Clowes has a good breast stroke, and should render a good account of himselt j on annual day. P. Cookson haa improved much on last year; he has a very taking breast stroke. I E. Purchase has a very nice side stroke that takes him along very easily, and should win a race on the day. Culverhouse is a game swimmer lor his age, and has been a splendid swimmer in his day. A. Williams is not taking so much interest in the sport as he did last year; he is not a very regular attendant at the baths. , F. Henry, with his water wheel stroke, geti along at a fair Dace ; I would advise him to practice regaWly. l :- W. Saunders (the Club's Secretary) awitns very well, and will want looking after on the day. . f W. S. Mitchell, last season* crack, is not in good form this year, and it is doubtful if he will compete on March 8. He was reported to have done faster time than won the Club's 50 yards Championship last year.
