CHERTSEY.

(FROM OUR CORRESrONDENT.) „,,. February 27. The late wet weather has in most cases been very acceptable here. Stacking being qyer some Hme, it interfered with but few who were eitrfe'r threshing or carting. Already the teams are coming in, and both the railway and New Zealand Loan and Mercantile sheds will soon be busy. The swimming bath petition to the^ Domain Board, which is now lying at the Post Office, is being numerously signed. If the Domain Board can obtain tha Council's consent, so that use may be made of the water race, the bath will be obtained. I am pleased to see that the School Committee have taken the matter Up, and passed a resolution expressing their approval of the movement. At the School Committee meeting, on Saturday evening, there were present —Messrs Childs (in the chair), Jackson, McDowell, Fendall, ana Page. The master's report showed an average of fifty-one for the four weeks since the holidays. The chairman was instructed to get several requisites for the school. With regard to the matter of crowding referred to in the master's report, it was decided to apply to the Board for an addition to the schoolroom. The master reported that the lately appointed mistres.--. Miss Tuliey, had commenced her f'uiiis. On the same evenii ga meeting of those interested in the Chertsey sports was held in the Library, Mr T. Kiely in the chair. The secretary attended and gave somo information with regard to last years' sports that waa required. The feeling of the meeting seemed to be in favour of the gathering being held, but as there were so few ready to take an active p irb in the work connected with it, and no one being willing to act as secretary, the idea had to be abandoned. While speaking of the library I m.y mention that a word of thanks is due to the Library Committee fof *.he use of the room as well as for che lights u&ed. Lately one or two of the books have suffered severely and two numbers of the " Illustrated London News " have disappeared. This is a pity, and it is to be hoped that it will not happen aijiuu. Already the room is resorted to for recreation and. chat, and during the coming winter I daresay will be more extensively used, I believe Mr Fendall, who has been managing " BelleVue " for*Mr Restell, is going away, and it has been rumored for seme time chat Mr McDowe 1 is going also. Both in an unassuming way have lent a helping hand to any movement going forward, especially, in connection with school and church matters, and in a small community like ours these kind of men are always missed.
