THE FLOODS IN AUSTRALIA.
WSR PRESS ASSOCIATION. (Received February 27, noon.) < Brisbane, February 27. The official cable to London announces the damage caused by the flood at £1,000,000.
Wkstport, February 27. To-day the Mayor cabled £100 io the Premier of Queensland for the relief of the sufferers by the flood. ProlVdy another £50 will be raised.
lhe collections at both services in the Primitive Methodist Church on Sunday were devoted, without any deduction at all, io the Queensland relief fund, and the same was the case at the service of the Church held at Newlands. The town collections amounted in all to £4 10s 2d, and the Newlands collection to £I—total.1 —total. £5 10s 2d. Our Chertsey cortespondent writes.— I am very pleased to say that our little district is not behind in the matter of sending some help to the Queensland sufferere. The following subscriptions have been collected by the postmaster' during the past two days :—Messrs J, Downie, T. McDowell, U. Scarlett, arid J. Copland, 103 each ; P. Doig, T. Firman, D. T. Todd, J. W. Matthews, T. Child*, J. Quinn, V. J. Thomas, W. Gill, and T. Kieley, 5s each ; P. Murphy, Paul Doig 1, and W. Power, 2s 6d each ; total £4 12^ 6d. M*R. Oithpbell will send a bag of flour.
