The Imkin Affair: Wellington, February 27 v . Win. James Smith, alias Wm, Aldridge, was brought into Court this morning charged with the murder of Jaovb Jacobsen, at Eutukara, on or about November 20, 1890. No evidence wm taken, and accused was remanded to March 7. The ■£!■«■ C»4«lry. The fact that Mr Giles, R.M., had exonerated King, the census enumerator, against whom various charges were brought by Mr Mitchelson, has already been made public, and a full report is now available. Dr Giles says—"Myrtviewaf the whole matter 6hows that in my opinion all the greater charges have completely broken down. Th b re may have been come instances of laxity or carelessness, or pt»" haps incompetency,: and there may hate been one or two incidents which, if known to the head of the department and not satisfactorily explained, might give rise to a feeling of uneasiness or suspicion ; "but bTieae things, even when combined with important statements showing the great post of King's work, would'not have induced the Government to advise a'commission of enquiry, but would have been left for departmental agtion." ar*tiv« jlhmil r««». Buller, claim for compensation and restitution of land bought by Buller, when plaintiff allege he was acting as their solicitor, judgment was given for Sir W. Buller with costs on the highest scale.
