THE MINISTER OF LANDS AT BLENHKIM. [pur press association.] Blbnhbim, February 23. The Hon. Mr McKeczie addressed a crowded meeting in Blenheim to-»ight. Owing to 'he illness of the Mayor, Mi Buick, M.11.R. was chairman. Tlu Minister defended the land policy cf ll.i Government, and explained that the Ministry before taking over the Cheviot, estate, had employed fcuree different st-lt. of,valuers, showing »n average profit of over £40,000 on their purchase. A syndicate had effesroa to purchase tne estatr, ] liut the Government had no interest, in selling or intention to sell when they took ovur the lurid. Hd said that there was no suivey, and in October 30,000 acres of agtioultural laud would be placed on the niatket, and the balance lett for twelve months, or until the survey was completed. The whole scheme would be submitted to Parliament. He then dealt with the question of Marl borough waste lands, giving every satisfaction to the settlers. \ rote of thanks to Mr McKenzie and confidence in the Government was declared carried.
