MESSRS MILKS AND 00., LIMITED. Messrs. Mile* and Compauy, Limited, report ou the weekly stock sale held at the Tiowald yards on Tuesday, February 21, as follows:—For fully four hours the auctioneers and others were very busily employed disposing of the large entries collected at the Tihwald sale, all the yards being occupied during the day, the totals reaching the extensive figures of 12,990 sheep, 47 head of cattle, and 4 pigs. The public attendance * was considerably larger than for months past, and purchasers for all classes were well represented The dry weather recently, experienced throughout the plains had its effect upon values, which were easier in all descriptions of sheep, although the opinion was generally expressed that a good shower of rain would again restore the high prices ruling of lat«. Entries in the butchers' class were limited, and the quality generally ' was plain, with the exception of a line of ; merino wethers we sold lor Mr Harper at top rates. Several pens of merino wethers were passed out unsold. For freezing pur* , poses the yarding was only limited, and as buyers for export were not anxious to secure sheep, business was restricted. The yarding of store lambs was very extensive, but with one or two exceptions, owners had to accept reductions on quotations of a few weeks ago. Several lines of crossbred and merino breeding ewes wore penned, and were quitted with difficulty at slightly under late rates. The following sales were made:—Fat crossbreds, 12s to 15s 3d; stores and breeding ewes, 9s to 13s; stores, 3s to 5* .64;' merino ewes and lambs, all counted, 6s to 7s 6d ; fat lambs, 10s 6d to 12s; stores, 6s 6d to 10*. Fat cattle were in good entry and met with active trade. Stores were in the minority, bat all brought forward changed hands at satisfactory prices. Our sales were:-125 two-tooth halfbred ewes, 13s 2d: 159 fat merino wethers, 10s 9d ; 48 two-tooth crossbred wethers, 13s lid; 126 crossbred freezers, 15s 3d; 225 first cross lambs, 10s 8d; 197 crossbred ewes and wethers, 12s 7d ; 300 halfbred two-tooths, 13s 7d; 131 half, bred two-tooths, 13s3d; 192 store merino ewes, 4s 9d; ill two-tooth crossbred ewes and wethers, 14s 6d, \ ' During the week we have told privately 440 lambs at satisfactory prices, and also a goqd line of rams. • ■ . -
MR JOHN G. EESXCLL. Mr John G. Rentell, in conjunction with the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (per Mr J. B. Bland, auctioneer), report* on the live stock market for the week ending February 22:—At the Tinwald yard* on Tuesday the largest yard, ing this year came forward for the day* market, viz., 13,000 aheep and 47 head of cattle. The attendance was good, and, considering' the heavy entry, prices were very satisfactory—in fact they were nearly equal to those obtained at former sales. The demand throughout the sale was steady, and almost every line offered by the various auctioneers changed hands at prices which must have been pleasing to vendors. The entry of freezers was small, and the demand was not strong. Sound mouth merino ewes were much sought after. Several liner of store lambs were penned, and met with good competition. Merino wethers were very dull of sale, except for a very prime line sent in by Mr Harper, which sold at 10s 9d. Store crossbreds found buyers at 12s 7d to 13* 9d. Stork Sheep.-—This class of sheep Waa sent forward in larger numbers than usual, there being some large lines of good young sheep yarded. Two-t-oth crossbreds n.ade 12s Id, 13s 7d, 133 Bd, 13s lid; crossbred ewes (two-tooth) 13s 9d, 143 6d ; crossbred lambs from 6s 9d to 10s lid ; merino ewes, with lambs at foot, all counted, from 7s to 8s 6d ; merino ewes from 4a 6d to 6s ; croaa■wiJwuLewea, of various ages, up to 10s.
