Gisbobnb, February 21. At the Supreme Court Pohi Haka was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for indecent assault. HQromoana Tinaki was acquitted on a charge of manslaughter by administering a dose of painkiller, whisky, and peppermint to a sick man. The jury coasidsred that there was not sufficient evidence to warrant them calling upon the prisoner for his defence. >apier, February 21. The Supreme Court opened to-day. The Chief Justice, in addressing the? Grand Jury, referred to the unusual number cf cases (16). The charges were of a kind that rhey would not expect in a well-to-do community, and he attributed them to drink. Christchukch, February 21. The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court closed this afternoon, Michael Corcoran and John Howard were sentenced to three years' penal servitude for larceny from the peison. G. S. Hickman was acquitted on a charge of embezzlement.
