Washington, Febrnar^ 17. Conflicting statements are published as to the Senate's probable action regarding the Hawaiian treaty. The Committee of the Senate have reported in favor of the Hawaiian Treaty. February 18. Secretary Foster, in a despatch to Mr J. L. Stevens, Americ&n Minister at Honolulu, approves of his co-operat-ing with the de facto Government for protection of life and property in the islands, but disavows his action if it sets the authority of America above the Government of Hawaii, in the capacity of protector, or impairs the independent sovereignty of Hawaii. CENTRAL AMERICA. February 19. Venezuela, Ecuador, and Columbia have entered into an alliance to^resist British encroachment.
