PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Workmen* llea Act. Auckland, February 16. The fir«t case hoard here under the Contractors' and Workmens' Lien Act came before the R.M, Court to #day, when W. M. Burnett, contractor for the Great North Road formation, was sued by his workmen for wages, part of which were held as security by the Newton Borough | Council. Judgment was given for the. men in the twenty-five cases heard, with ! costs.: fhe lt«clia»lt«*. New Plymouth, February 16. ; The Council of Reche bites met again this morning, when 'it was decided to | appoint official visitors to visit the tents in each district at least once a year, to examine books, etc., the districts to be as follows—l, Wellington ; 2, Wairarapa and Palmerston North to New Plymouth; 3, Woodville, Napier, and Gisboroe; 4, Nelson, Takaka, and Marlbprough; 5, Christchurch,'Dunedin, and invercargill -- such official visitors to be under the direct control of the executive. The delegates will be entertained at a soiree this evening. Philosophical Society. Wellington, February 16.
