wharves arc again submerged. Railway communication with Sydney is interrupted, and the line further damaged. Heavy floods have been experienced in Toowoomba. The stretts are flooded, and many shops inundated. Sydney, February 14. ; The fund in aid of the Queensland sufferers has reached £3000. Oamaru, February 13. The Mayor has called a public meeting for to-muht to consider the relief of the Brisbane sufferers. The bands announce. a sacred concert for Sunday next with the same object. Oasuru, February 14. A public meeting held last night appointed an influential committee to collect subscriptions of money and produce in aid of the sufferers by the Brisbane floods. It was suggested that a general Sunday be put aside throughout the colony for collections, on the lines of Hospital Sunday. The local churches will give a collection. Wellington, February 14 At yesterday's lecture in aid of the sufferers by the Queensland floods £25 whs collected.
At the meeting of the Ashburton Borough Council last nighfc the question of raising aid for the sufferers by the floods in Queensland was discussed. CrP«.ul moved that the Council express its deep sympathy with the inhabitants ot Brisbane in the calamity thit has befallen them, and that subscription lists be opened with the view of raising funds for relief purposes. ;' Crs Soaly and Orr were of opinion that Government ought to act promptly in this, mutter of relief, as the disaster was a national one. ; : v Cr Duncan suggested that the Ashburton Publishing Company should open a subscription list through the columns of their papers. At this juncture a telegram was received from the Hon. W. P. Reeves on the subject of help to the sufferers by the flood. Money contributions may be sent through che Coloiial Secretary, Welliijr>t>n.~W. P. Reeves, Wellington." Cr Paul's motion was passed with tha addition by Cr Cuthbertson that a public meeting be called at an early date to arrange for the rais;ng of subscriptions.
