The Premier has promised to move in Parliament for a grant in aid of the Queensland sufferers by the floods, if the details show the necessity. Brisbane, February 12. It is estimated that £10,000 worth of damage has been done to the powder magazine by the flood. Great expense will be incurred in removing the Government steamers, including the Palunah, from the Botanical Gardens. The Government have distributed 2000 pairs of blankets and a large quantity of provisions among the distressed, Fifty-two houses were washed away at Ferndale, and many narrow escapes from drowning are reported Torrents of rain are again falling, a.ad four inches were registered in three hours. Several houses in Stanley street, South Brisbane, are again surrounded by Ayater. A hurricane, accompanied by a terrific rainfall, has been experienced at Bundaberg, 260 miles north of Brisbane, ai?d four inche3 of rain were recorded in ten hours. At Ipswich also there was a heavy rainfall, and the Brisbane river is rising 2 feet 6 inches

per hour. • Painful scenes have taken place at the Eclipse mine, where several miners are entombed by the rushing water, and the wives of the perished miners are endeavouring to dig through into the mine. The Government have received sympathetic telegrams from the Governments of New lZealand and other colonies. (Received February 13, 11.55 a.m.) Brisbane, February 13. ; Up to the present time 424 families, representing two thousand persona, have been relieved. The fund h*s reached £6000. It is estimated ten thousand persona will require relief, absorbing at least £35,000.
