Wi»,h reference to the rao asked for by Messrs Giles. Cass, Hight and^Robinson as a branch of the Tinwald Waterton race, Mr Cass is new wreeabl that the route should be afong his middJ fenca. This would do away with thi necessity for de«p suUiag as on the lin first proposed, and the applicants are pr« pared to undertake the work short! after harvest. I would suggest they It aLowed to do so, provided the supply i returned to the existing race, practical! undiminished. In brdei toitssupoly the initial portion of mait from Limestone creek through the dcci cutting will have to be improved an! deepened to the extent of five inches. This will give a corresponding increase ot capacity to river flume there, whict requires a little repair as soon as watei can be turned off. The flunn overstorni channel (24 feet in length) in «Z yicinitj will require to be enlarged, rod in order to «xc3ude sheep from the boulder cutting new inlet, 12 chains cl doo6y would, be advantageous. Ashburton-Rakaia watersapply.—Binee last meeting of Council, the service for this district has been quite satisfactory and the races, almost without exception! have been running freely. Now, no w. ever, the Wakanui creek is fast giving in, through the inadequate supply in the north branch. To-day there is scarcely enough left in (ho creek to feed the condenser at the Canterbury mills, and the Borough supply which .is already short, has had to be further reduced.
