ROAD BOARD.
BANGITATA. The ordinary m^ti-g <.f tho Rangitata Road Board was held on Wednesday, February 1. Present - Messrs Harper (chairman), Peter, Goodwin, and Wright "The Overseer reported that the contract for the formation of Perseverance road was satisfactorily completed : that tne ford over the North Hinds at the Brothers had been repaired; that the contractor had commenced metalling Boundary road, and that the Anama contract was in hand ; that the shingle for both these contracts contained too much sand, but there was no better to be had from the riverbed ; that the contract at May field was about completed ; that the scone-picking contrast on the M«yfield to Bridge mad was at a standstill at present, on account of the harvest; thn Horton's contract for stone-picking on Perrin's road and the road through Reserve 2591 should be cancelled, as the time was nearly expired and work not yet begun ; that the fords across the Hinds at Maronui and on Perseverance roaa hac been repaired ; that the board which had been put up on Reserve 2089, giving notice that there was no thoroughfare through the reserve, had been taken away. The report ws»s approved. THIRDS. The Chairman staged that since last meeting he had had an interview wijh the Commissioner of Crown Lands re thirds, and was informed that the matter had been placed by the Minister of Lands in the hands of the Commissioner who had promised to pay over immediately the amount now long, overdue for water race construction.- , The Board decided to let the question of thirds stand over uatil next meeting, pending the fulfilment of the Commissioner's promise. reserve 1237. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote in rpply to an application fro™^" B Board to have a portion of reserve U67, near the Rangitata traffic bridge, set aside and vested in the Boaid for the accommodation of travelling btock. Toe Land Board had set apart the land asked for, for the purpose named, but could not vest it in the Board, as the reserve waoriginaly made for the purposes of the hrvfce. The L-vd'Board would be glad of any suggestions for dealing with it. The Clerk was instructed to reply that it is the wish of this Bond that the whole reserve be handed ovor to the County Council, as that body have to maintain the bridge ; also to forward the Commissioner's letter to the lounty Council; with a request that the Council apply to the Land Board lo have the reserve handed over, and in the event of the' request being complied with, that the Council set apart the portion lying between Mr Ashby's leasehold and tho road leading to the bridge (forty-eight acres) for the accommodation of travelling, stock as approved by the Land Board. WATER RAC3 CONSTRUCTION.
The County Engineer wrote certifying that there was over £200 now due to the County County tor water race construction, and requesting the Board to pay that amount over to the Couucil. SUBSIDIES, The Paymaster-General advised the Board that the sum of £6117s 6d had been paid into the Board's account on account of subsidy. NOTICE BOARD ON RESERVE 2589. The Clerk was instructed to advertise that a reward of £5 would be paid for information that would lead to the coni vicrion of the person who removed the i notice board from reserve No. 2589, and to have another board erected. It was resolved tc request the County Council to come .to an 'arrangement with the tenant of reserve 2589, in order.to secure a public road on the eastern side of the reserve, as indicated on the map of the district. TENDERS, The tender of T. Rsaney for metalling at Montalto was accepted. There was no tender for breaking the stones on the South Hinds road. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £64 11s 7d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned to Wednesday, March 1.
