Auckland, Februarys 5. In a quarrel which took place last night on board the American barque H. tr. Johnatone, a sailor named Jam«s Stewart was stabbed with a sheath knife below the heart, and now Hes at the hospital. It is uncertain whether the wound is dangerous. Another sailor, Gustaye Battmer, a German, has been arrested, charged with the offence, H. G. Johnstone recently arrived here from Adelaide. Napier, February 4. The racing mare Link, reported stolen, was taken by its part owner in satisfaction of a disputed account, The mare will be sold tc-day. , Nbw Plymouth, February 4. Inspector Thomson, the officer who has recently taken charge Of this district, has been on a tour of inspection as far as Opunake. On Thursday last he made a friendly visit to Te Whiti at Parihaka, That chief received him very cordially and afterwards entertained the Inspect er at luncheon, served in European style, at which about twenty of the principal Natives of the settlement were also present. The Inspector's interview was of a satisfactory nature.
