News from Samoa states that a publio meotiing was held on the 7th December at which all the districts of Samoa were represented by chiefs appointed for tbe purpose when Mataafa realgnei tie title of King of Samo:* and Maliofcoa waa reinstate! in thtt position. The three Consuls issued a proclamation stating that the Governments of Germany, Great Britain, and tha United States would from henceforth recognise Malietoa as King, and urging the two parties at Samoa to fifiect a reconciliation. Four of Tamnseaa'a chiefs met Malle'oa and to.d him they were satisfied with the tnrn events had taken. Robert L. Stevenson^ litfai English novelist, has arrived at Samoa from the Line Islands.
