At the eleotion for the vaoanoy m the South Rakaia Road Board held to-day Mr William P^oroft was returned unopposed. Tbe weekly session of the Star of the Bisi Lodge, 1.0.0. T., waa hsld m the Templar Hall laat evening, the Lodge opened by Bro G Soott, 0.T., at 7.30. About fifty 1 members inoluding visitors wore present. Bro G. Soott oonveyed fraternal greetings from the Star and Pioneer Lodges of Wellington, the Phoenix, of Master ton, and the Jubilee, of Palmerston North. A great amount of business was got through, nnd the Lodge was closed m due form by the O.T. at 9.45. Upon the invitation of the Hon T. Fergus, Minister for Publio Works, and Mrs Fergus, about five hundred ladies and gentlemen, proceeded up the Otago Central line on Wednesday. The Oompany included the j Exhibition Commissioners, M. Jules Joubert (Manager), Mr Osoar Meyer (Commissioner for New South Wales Court), Mr Fletoher (Superintendent of the Viotorian Court), a uumber of distinguished visitors from all parts of Australia, and representative men of Dunedin and other cities m New Zealand. ( We are glad to see the names of Ashburton boys figuring well m the prize lists of Christ's College and the Christohurob High Sobool. At the College Herring took the Tanored prize for English literature, division B, and the seoond of these prizes for modern history m the same division ; first olassioal prize m the upper V form, also first for English and first for Divinity. At the High Bohool, Upper V form, (division A), A. Buohanan took seoond for mathematics, E. Buohanan first and A. Buohanan seoond for Latin, and also first and seoond respectively for English ; A. Buohanan firs; m the Senior Chemistry Class, and E. Buchanan seoond m senior physios. The best medioine is Sander and Sons' Eucalypti Extraot.
