PUNERAL OF SEARLE.
AN ENORMOUS ASSEMBLAGE. (PEK PBESB AHBOOIATIONi) Sydney, Deaomber 14 Ihe funeral of Harry Searle, the renowned sculler, took place this afternoon, and was probably the largest ever seen in this colony. It is estimated that fully two hundred thousand persons thronged the streets, and the scene was t impressively solemn, The crush while the cortege passed along was so great that traffic was entirely suspended, and many persons narrowly escaped serious injury. All the influential business i places were draped with flags of crape in memory of deceased, for whom the greatest respect was entertained. The pall bearers included th3 leading scullers of Australia,, vi«, Beach, Kemp, Laycock, Neilson, Stansbury, Rush, Trickett, Matterson (Searle's trainer), Stephenson and McLean. The coffin was covered with wreaths sent from all parts of Australia, and Canadian visitors paid their last respect to deceased by placing beautiful wreaths. All the leading citizens of the colony followed the remains to the cemetery.
