The Attorney-General, after heariog the Magistrate's explanation, has declined to take any further steps m the case of Thomas, the defaulting teller of the Bank of New Zealand, who was sentenced to six months imprisonment on Tuesday.

In the Assembly this afternoon Mr Dibbs, leader of the Opposition, gave notice of his intention to move on Tuesday next tbat this Assembly is of opinion that Government have failed to carry out their pledge with regard to the financial policy, and that an immediate revision of the tariff is necessaty with a view to the imposition of duties of a protective character. The Premier intimated that the Government accepted the motion as one of want of confidence and the Assembly immediately adjourned.
