The work has been executed by Krestcbmayer, of Melbourne, and is modelled on Hues Bomewhat similar to the statue of htr Mtvjeaty m Sydney. The figure jaat now presents a very rough appearance, having been a good doal knocked about m transit, but no doubt ;he rigidity of ita outlines will be toned down during the next day or two- The statue is erected on a pedeßtal of Port Chalmers bluestODe. Work has been begun on the Klffel Tower, but the fctracture will not ba complete for at least a fortnight. It will be 130 ft m height, and 100 ft up will be a platform capable of containing about forty passengers. Visitors will not be able to asoand any higher. The tower is a speculatlou of iha Otis Lift Company, who are introducing their celebrated lifts into Zealand. The first of the kind was opened at the Grand Hotel one day this week. The lifts of the tower will be worked by a special a team engine, imported fof the purpose, as it la calculated that hydrau ie machine y wou d be too expensive fcr so temporary an ai£ r . Usually, of course, water power is employed.
