GENERAL EDWARDS' VIEWS.
Brisbane, November 22 Gensral Edwards, who is visiting Australia for the purpose of inspecting the defence forces of the various colonies has arrived here. In the course of an interview, he said that the .federation of the colonies must come afout, The tariff question was a serious one, and unless disposed of by Federation, it was not impossible for it to lead to civil war. He favors intercolonial JEreetrade. The idea of a responsible government for Western Australia was absurd, and he bad restxoDgly on the* sibject to the Home Government thaf federation would settle the difficulty by the conioint Government taking oyer the whole territory.
