• | (From oun own Correspondent,) Heavy ralno have fallen during the ( pant week. Tho crops, gardens, aud paddocks were very nearly driad up by i the Nor'weaters, but tbe rala has given ' them a good start again and they are now i looldag very healthy. Oar aohooluiaaier, Mr E. SmUh, ia now leaving the district to go to the Pondarvoo , school. Mr Smith has had hit troubles ! with one or two of tha parents of children, but ttolr complaints were very weak ones and aa % whole he gave eatisfaotlon m his teaohlng, one excellent point being that he has good command over tbe pupils without nelng the stlok. I miy also state that m tha Act Drawing competition open < to all New Zealand, three prfee^ were given In eaoh of the Standards 111, 11, and I bp Messrs Whltoomba and Tombs, of Ohrlstoburoh, and the third prlzj of Standard 111 was woa by D*vld Kellahan of tha May field School, under tha tuition of Mr Smith. A social gathering waa held In the Schoolroom on Friday evening l»Bt to say good-bye to Mr and Mcs Smith, Tha weather was very wet, but notwithstanding that a good few turned out, and all present wished Mr and Mrs 3mlth every euooeaa In thoie new sbhool at Pendarves. Shearing haa started In this district, but the wet weather harpravented maoh progresa In that work. The people here were very much surprised and very sorry to hear that Mr Alison, a Home Missionary, who bas been plaoed m the Rtkala and Hilla dlstrlot, haa resigned hia position as such. Mr Alison has preached here onoe a month and was very much liked us a preaoher, and highly respected by all who knew him.
