THE UNITY OF THE EMPIRE.
London, November 17.
Lord Rosebery, speaking at the Mansion House, said that the colossal expression of sympalhy with the dock s rikers made by Australia and the practical assistance she afforded England during the Soudan war indicated a tone of unity throughout the Empire. The existence of a Federal Government depended on the periodical ivenewal of the Conference.
Lord Carnarvon hoped that the question of federation would be submitted to the next Imperial Conference.
The " Times," referring to the speeches, says that the promoters of federation are forcing the pace. At present there is little ground for practical agitation, and the result of the Australian Federation movement must be awaited before it would be prudent or profitable to move further m the matter.
The "Standard" says there is nothing at present to demand the Conference.
