A MAD MILLIONAIRE.
If we aro to bolij>e all accounts, Mr William Richmond, who died the other day et ifulbe-aoh, Grantham, was tho moat eocentricof wealthy mon. He made a large fortune m Australia, and re;urned to England five years ago with the apparent obj .ct of getting rid of his money as faot as he could. Says one account — "He would boy the moat va uablo articles, and thon deßtroy them. He was known to have smashed up a gold watch dirootly he bought it. A oontemporary whioh notioes his eocont/icities— almost bordering on inßanlty--Bayß that ho wrenched off the baok of silver watches, so that they might be more conveniently wound up ; the' straw was taken out of a new mattress for pig bedding ; springs wero taken out of new ea9y chairs, nhelvea out of the house for firewood, clocks broken and thrown away, bread daily burnt on the fire, legs of mutton and sides ot bacon were buried ia the garden, and valuable plants and trees were bought and chopped up. lt entered Mr Richmond's head to build a greenhouse, but wheu it . was finished he knocked ttto pieoos. Before he died Mr Richmond had squandered all hia fortune, and wag aotnally buried by the pariah.
