WUh (egard to the dfsoovery of phylloxera In toll dlttrtot. Mr Thomas Hoott, Of MOUQt Kdeo, upon whose nuruery the insect was found, will destroy the whole of hla vines to-morrow morning. He Is ■0 disheartened with the complete havoo made In bia vinery and tbe expense and labour which would be Involved In eradicating the pest and returning vine culture successfully that he intends to give up operations. Mr Soott obtained the vines fonr yea* a ago, planting one aide with different varieties from several suburban norsutles, and the other side witb vluea from Whan^arol. Eighteen months ago he detuoted that there waa ■omethlng wrong with some of the vines, «nd rooted them out beforo the orop waa tfpe. He planted Instead trash ones of fall own growing. These had a growth kit year of tweDty to thirty feet, but sever had a bud, acd on Inspection he nnder the roots were rotten.
