SOUTH KAKAIA ROAD BOARD

The usual monthly meeting waß held on Thursday. Present— Messrs Ooster (chairman), Mulligan, Stringfellow, aud MoLean.

The Olerk'_ report was read and considered.

The Chairman reported aooepting during the month the following tenders : (J-orne cutting, No 1 contraot, D. Whlto at 7d por chain ; No 2, J. Moodie at 6|d ; No 3, D. Hughes at 7£d ; No 4, J. Ooi, at la 6d ; No 5. D. Hughes at 4d ; No 6, J. Irvine at 10 J ; for mini? fords; E, McAnulty, 60s ; forming portion of Kyle road, J. Wets on at 3s 10£ d per chain. — Action approved of.

On the motion of Mr Mulligan, seconded' by Mr Slringfellow, it waß resolved that tbis Board give 2s per 100 for small birds heads and eggs (starlings not ino^ded.) Oorrespondenoa waa received from Mr J. Porter offering tt» plant irees at certain rates. The work had bojn dano. — A number of ratepayers petitioned the Bourd to metal the cross road from Ohertsey Boundary i Boad to tho Kylo road, known as Sprott's road. There was considerable tr&fßo, and the road was almos. impassable m winter ; tbe petitioners also asked ' that Mr Mulligan's petition aisking to bavo the lower portion of Kyle road motallod be struck out and theirs Bubßtitnted. —On tbe same subject Measra Sprott Bros wrote staling that it was reported thoy were against tho Kyle road being metalled, but this was not the oase as the work was a necessary one.

Mr Mulligan was of opinion that both roads required metal, but he certainly thought the main roads should reoeive attention first.

Mr MoLean thought Mr Mulligan should withdraw biß petition and let the other road be done firat and then afterwards he would vote for the Kyle road being dono.

Mr Mulligan moved That the Kyle road be metalled from tbe «rad of the present metal for some & miles, seconded by Mr Strlngfellow, The OhaUmem rogrettad there was not a fall Board, he shonld like tbe roads to be examined by the members before committing the ratepayers to snob a large amount of expedltare. Mr Mulligan thought it quite soffiolenl to look on the map tn see which rojad should reoeive attention fret, The Chairman agreed with him hat thought members should Inspect. Mr Mulligan withdrew his motion Qn tbe understanding tbat Messrs Ooßter, Strlngfellow and Lyttelton be a oommltteo to visit tbe roads and report to a special meeting to be held on a date to be fixod by the Chairman, seconded by Mr McLean and carried.

Mr J. Shellook wrote resigning hla position of Poundkeeper and Banger from date.

The Chairman was requested to make temporary arrangements. Tenders to be called for the office of Pounakeoper to be iv by next meeting. The fiction of tbe Chairman aud Mr Strlngfellow In pan-ine Oronln's oontraot at Hatfield was approved of, Mr J. Smith on aooount of Mr Fordbam wrote asking permission to plough a road from the pound to his section In the settlement. Tho olerk was instruoted to have tho road ploughed a chain wldo from the pound to the three ohain road.

Tho Bondsmen for Mr Shellook wrote withdrawing from aoting as the latter had resigned.

Messrs Holmos and Lough rey wiots on payment for land taken from Andersons land.

Mr Porter wrote ro planting trees at Mitcham. Decided not to plant till next May

An application wna made by tho Audit department for the sum of £2 for auditing tbe Board's ncoounts. Beaolved to put Birao on the pay sheet. Tho following tenders wore aooepted : — Forming Straohan's road, T. Going, £37 IQ*. Aooounts for £225 18) 81 were passed for paymont and the members met ao a Oometery Board' Tho only business waa ! tho passing of aooounts and the mooting ] adjourned! I
