Dr Wilkina, of Auckland, has just concluded an exhaustive series of experiments with" the Brown-Se'quard elixir. The remedy was tried both by moana of hypodermics In jootion and emulsion • but Sn not a single instance was the ellgbtect Improvement noticed by either patient or himself. Tbe doctor even experimented upon himself, but found no appreciable difference. Some of the patients were suffering from extreme debility, others from eciatloa and neuralgic pains, while one was affeoted with a tendoncy towards paralys's. The doctor gives it as hia opinion that the Improvement In condition claimed by Dr Brown-Srfqoard and othora la tha result of imagination on the part of tho patient *j but believes if fo oould have told the patients the nature of the remedy he waa applying — and be could not beoiuae of ; the previous objections of others— -their imaginations would bava exe;oiaod a powerful lnfluejoe io the oase. The doator subsequently experimented with oleofcrlolty, galvanism, faradiam, and other therapentlo agents on the same patients with considerable success.
