Lord Carington said he would, gladly hail the advent of an interproviocial nnion as a step towards the larger federation of equal rights, common citiaenship, and the due allotment of responsibility m all dealings with other nations, which would give permanent security to future relations between Great Britain and Australia. The Bart of Kintore said tfoat he recognised the difficulties \n arranging the details of the scheme, some of which were of a character which would haye 1 to be adjusted before' complete federation was attained. He was, however, convinced that great as these difficulties might be, they faded to insignificance compared with the grand consummation m view.

Sir William Robinson said he was satisfied that federation was bound to come, and the destiny of Australia de-. manded ii ,

Mr Gillies, the Premier, declared that the Government of Victoria would leave no step untaken to enable this colony to join a thorough Federation Union. The people of Victoria would, he said, sink smaller miserable rivalries, and would take part at tb,e wrliegt possible moment m. a conference 6n the subject.
