PROPOSED NEW WESLEYAN CHURCH.
For Borne time past, there has been a growing oonviotion amongst tbe members of the Wesleyan Churoh m Ashburton oounty, that the looation of the Church m Asbburton was unsuitable, and tbat tbe oondition of the building waß euoh aa demanded a very considerable expenditure m renovating and repairs. This oonviotion has found frequent expres* Bion during the last fsw months, and the trustees at various times discussed the matter at tbeir business meetings Recently a sub. Committee wbb appointed to make enquiry as to what sites were available for purchase. After some negotiation the seotion adjoining the Oounty Oounoil Chambers, fronting Baring Square and Cameron street, waa placed under offer to tbe trustees m the sum ot £300. Thia waa considered so suitable m *:very reßpeot, that a congregational meeting v r.shcl- on Wednesday evening, when the = •- '*•;.& suggested by the trustees were j«.ft^ before tbe ftM*. At present the movement only embraoep,"the puroha.G of , the site, and the removal of tbe Church. The estimated expenditure for thiß will be about £500. Of this amount it is proposed to raise by subscriytions £300, the balance being provided for by loan from the Wesleyan Ohuroh Loan and Building Fund, whioh makes advanoes m eaob oasos for a term of years withont interest, ibo L jan Fund Committee heartily approves of the soheme and roadily grantod the loan applied for a term of 8 years. At tbe mooting on Wednesday evening, the fceliag m favor of tbe proposals was most decided and the sum of £150 was promised. A nub-Committee was appointed to make a further oanvass and report at a later stage. On all hands, the trustees are reoeiving promises of help and assistance m carrying out an undertaking whioh will secure marked advantages to the Oburoh m ita work m thiß community. One thing the trustees have determined to do, that iB, to work out their plans without involving themselves or the congregation with a heavy incumbrance of debt. We congratulate the members of the Wesleyan Ohuroh on their new departure, and wish tbem suoaeßß.
