POND'S PACKAGES.

In connection with tbe reoent cable news from Victoria, the folio wing from the " New Zdaland Herald" is of Interest; ~As showing the exteuslve operations of the Enamelled Butter Package Factory of Pond and 00,, at Freeman's B«y, we may mention that 3000 packages wer« shipped iast week to New Soutn Wales by the Mararoa, f ,r which colony there are orders for 15,000 daring tae season. One thousand are being sent to the West Oosst and various pUces m ihe Middle liland, pan of the shipment went lait week. An order has been received from Melbourne for 2000, of the smaller s se f but as the timber la not kept m stock of this gauge, the demand for that stea not being extensive m this colony, a reply has been forw»rded to that tfEaot, with an offer to oomplete the order for a larger alza at once or to fulfil the former order whan tbe timber Is fuusoned for li. The firm is at present awaiting a rep y. It is con. templated by the proprietors to commence next month to put on two shifts, working the factory night and day during the season, as previously. Additional machinery is being put Into the fsotory m ordar to still further minimise the cost of production of the boxts, and it la the Intention of the firm to allow the purobasera to share proportionally m the benefit derived from the reduction m cost.
