A BOY RUN OVER BY THE TRAIN
On Saturday last an accident occurred on j the railway line near Windermere by whicn a boy, nine years of age, and the ■on • f Mr Bell, the manager of the Chatmoss Estate, lost his life. The boy, who was .of weak intellect and sub] act to epi • lepf'c fi s, haviog, it is said, as many as two or three m the day, was missed from his home, which is about a couple of Biles from the railway line, on Saturday afternoon . As he was incapable of taking care of himself, a search was at once instituted, Mr Bell searching the road leadIng to the railway Hue. This was, us it paoved, the route taken by the boy, who had made hie way to the line and was lying down "between the rails when the Express, same along. From what we can" learn it appears that the driver saw something which seemed to him like a bundle of clothes on the track, tut before the train oonld be stopped, the oowcatoher of the engine had strusk the boy, fraoturlng bis iknll. The train was brought to a stand■till as soon as poiilble, and the boy placed m the guard's van to be taken to the Hinds. He expired, however, soon •itar being picked np. While Mr Bell Wai oomlng np the road he saw the train pus, and bad the boy's disappearance been aotloed a quarter of an hoar earlier, It ti poEilble that nil father might have •reived m time to tave his life.
