TELEGRAPH EXTENSION.
At a meeting of the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company the balancesheet was submitted, showing net profit for the half-year at ;£i 39,000. It was announced that the cable between Australia and New Zealand would be duplicated without delay.' Sir John Pender intimated that the Eastern Extension Company was willing to lay a Pacific cable for strategic purposes if fairly paid for the work.
