A Mr Lawrenoe, a resident of the Ttfapeka district haa lost his life aa (ho result of a gorse prickle entering his linger while engaged m dipping a fenoe. The wound at firßt waß not considered of sufficient seriousness to merit attention, but m the oourao of a few days it became troublesome, oausing aoute pain, and BhowiDg a tendency to inflamma. tion. Eventually the finger was amputated but too late, and tho patient finally died of blood poisoning. The " Waimato Times " referring to the above mentions another instanoe of poisoning by gorse m the oase of Mr Bippingale, a resident of that district. In this ouse also the gorse pioklo entered the finger, whioh soon became very painful, tho whole arm swelling to an enormous bizo. The other arm then beoame affected m a similar manner, and as tho poison had apparently gone through the bpdy, the patient beooming very low, little hope was enlortained of bis recovery. However, under the watcbttjl attention and skill of the surgeon (Dr Nioolls) who attended upon him, the patient, after two months prostration, gradually oame round, without amputation being resorted to, and be has beep able to be about for somo time past.
