Mr D, Thomas (late Matson, Cox and Co) reports upon the i.ive Stock market for the Ashburton district for the week ending October the Bth as follows : — On Tuesday at the Tinwald Yards I held my usual weekly sale of sheep, catt'e and pigs. There was a total entry lor the day of 2204 sheep and 38 head of cattle of which I had for sale 1649 sheep and 7 head of cattle. The attendance was a small one but from the commencement it was evident that there would be a marked improvement m prices an 1 the competition was brisk throughout the sale. The following were the prices realised. For fat crossbred ewes, us 61 to 13s; #-back wetbers, 135 6d to irs 8d; 2-tooth ewes and wethers, 13s o.d to 13s 1 id. In store merino ewes m lamb, 5 s 3^ to 6s ; merino ewes, fair percentage lambs, 7s, 7s lid, to 8s 6d ; merino wethers,", 5s Bd, crossbred hoggets, 7s 61, 105 6d to 12s. Privately I sold 450 hoggets, 10s 6d and 100 fat crossbred at 14s 6d. In cattle fat heifers, £$ 7s 6d to £7 xo> ; springers, £3 9s to £s ios j fat cows, £5 5s j store ows, £3 15s.
