SOUTH RAKAIA ROAD BOARD
The uiual monthly meeting of the South Raksla Road Board was held on Thursday. Present: Meisrs Ooster (Ohalrman), L7ttelton, MoLesn, Mulligan and Stringfellow. The Clerk's report was read and considered. The Chairman reported that the County Council had appolntsd a commit ea to report on tbe otrmterles and plantations Id ths county. Mr MoLeao stated that he htd with the Olerk visittd tbe road asked to be formed by Mrs Murphy, and now reoommended that six chains of the road be formed and tbat 40s be expended m reducing the cutting*. — Carried. It wss rttolved to hsve the metalling atked for on SprottU road done. It wss deolded to have tbe gravel reserve at Kyle planted. The Commissioner of Grown lands wrote wftbdrawing his last letter and stating that he oould oot recommend the Board to sanction the redootl n of width of road In village settlement as asked for; Ratepayers aiked to have about 3£ miles of Kyle road mettled. On the motion of Mr MeLetn consideration wa* postponed till next meeting as it was nodsrs'ood there would be a pstitlon sent In »RalDßt tbe work being done, Mr Manro wrote ooropislniog that be had been aiked tn pay rates and htd rrcelvei no notioe. The olerk atated that •11 notloes had been tent at the proper time and as Mr Munto's b*d not been returned through the dead letter office (t m«st have reaobed him. M> Oronin wrote asking the Board to obtain another gravel pit on Malnw*ring's road and offering £p towards the cost of asms. — Resolved th«t tbe request ooold not be •omplled with. It wai resolved tbat the Chairman should luepeot tbe Hatfield rosd and give eontrsotor Oronin no" log that unless he eompletsd bis work at onoe other labor would be put on at his espenoe, Mr Allen wrote askings have a number of names put on the roll, ail purchasers of land. Resolved to comply with the reciuest. rMr Morton wrote offering to rent a tieon of road. The olerk' lo reply that the Baard sonld not acoode to the recjuest. Messrs Holmes and Loughrey wrote re gravel pit on Anderson's land. Ths Olotk was instructed to have the fences erected. Moyod by Mr Mulligan, seconded by Mr Lyttelton ''That tanders be oiled for miking three open crosiings on Beaob rosd/' Carried. It wat decided aleo to form 40 chains of the lower end of Kyle road. It was resolved to oall tenders for gorse flatting. The Ohatrm«n and any one member to accept. On the motion of Mr Strlngfellow, seconded by Mr McL?an, it was deolded to form 1 mile and 30 chaiod of Straohan'* rosd, east of R, 1112, It vasdeoldeu that In future tender* for all works would be received up to the hour of the Board'ts meeting.
