UPPER ASHBURTON ROAD BOARD
The usual monthly meeting of this Boaid was held in the Board's offioe, Tinwald, yesterday. Present: Messrs McLean (Chairman), Harper, Stitt and Sargeant. Mr M. Straohey wrote asking the Board if they would repair thn ford serosa tho Hinds river at Llsmoro. Resolved tbat tbe necessary work be donp. Regarding thamoants duo to the Board on account of lands taken on deferred payments or perpetual lease, Mr Harper moved, and Mr Sergeant eeoonded, ••• That tha Clerk write to the Commissioner of Crown L<tnds asking thnt the amounts be paid an soon as possible" and It wns oarried In referenoe to tbo portion of tbo road known as tho Tlmaru track whioh tbe Oounty Ooanoll intend to proo'alra aa a County _>ad, Mr Harper moved and Mr. Stitt spoonded tho following resolutions, which were oarried : — " (1) This Board protests agaiost the Oounty Cornell proclaiming a small portion of the road known as the Timaru truck a Oounty rnad to suit their own coavculenoo, atd re quests tho Council if they deem it necessary to take any ' portion of the road for County purposes to proclaim tho entire line of read through this road distrlot a County road. (2) Tola | B< ard also strongly protesta againit the 0 unty Oouncll constructing a a'orm-water channel by tapping No 1 and 2 oreeks on the Lfghraor Estate and thus conveying the storm water to the Aahba-toc river, sb In tho opinion of this Bo»rd the work la unneooeesary nnd unjustifiable " Mr Harper also brought before the noHoo of theß^ardthe faot that Mr Lublow had diverted a ponloo of tho South Branoh Ashburton rlvpr,— Rosolved that the Jlerk write to tbe Oounty Council drawing their attention fro the matter. Tho Olork was instructed to wilte tothe Engineer of Railways asking tbe o.st of a new orosslng at Winslow. Tho Clerk's report was read and adopted* It was resolved to bavs notioe boards placed where required stating that If persona did not desist from riding on the paths In the Allenton distriot legal proceedings would be takan, It was rerolved that tbe Olerk notify al. ooonpiera of properties that all gorso growing adj <oent to snoh proprieties on the roads must be -removed at onoa. It was decided to call for the following tenders : — l. For tho ereotlon of a fenoo round tbo gravel reserve at the junction of the Alford Forest and Winter's roads, abovo tbe Woollen F-.otory. 2. For shingling some two mlh's of the Laorioton road ten yards to tho chain. 3. For forming some 15 chains of the Pemvor•noe rood near the Borough reserve, St. Helera, also removing culverts and making an open oronnlnjr. 4 For repa'rs 'o the ford at (Green'*) Woaierfleld side of the Sooth Branoh river. 5. For leaning tbe gravel pit, Alf.>rd Forest road and Winter's road, above Woollen Faotory for a term of five years. Aooounta amonntlup to £99 JO* wero pasned for payment nnd the Board adj mmed. '
