The following private cable message was received m Christchurch yesterday from Melbourne : — " The duty will be raised oo wheat on and after to-day to as i id per xoolb (equal to is o,d per bushel), The market tor oats and and barley is very irregular, prospects are very doubtful. Think it possible the new duty will come into operation about middle of next week."
