New Zealand fours 108£ active. Australian wheat, ex warehouse, 39s 6d ; New Zealand longberried, ex ware - house, 38s 6d.
Sugar quiet ; German best 14s 8d ; Java 17b 9d.
The following private cable message has been received from Messrs Goldsbrough, Mort and Co : —
Sydney. September 19
Wbeat — Tuscan milling wheat, prime quality, sacks m, 4s; Hunter's white wheat, prime quality, sacks m, 35 Bd. Wheat is declining. Oats— Short heavy feed oats, prime quality, sacks m, 2s gd to 3s. Oats are dull. Maize — Prime quality, sacks m, 3s 2d. Bran and pollard are dull, former o,d, latter B^d. Potatoes are m good demand. We quote New Zealand lota at up to £5 ss.
The following private cable message was received m Christchurch yesterday from Melbourne : — " The duty will be raised oo wheat on and after to-day to as i id per xoolb (equal to is o,d per bushel), The market tor oats and and barley is very irregular, prospects are very doubtful. Think it possible the new duty will come into operation about middle of next week."
