AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

A fully attended meeting of the Committee of the Aahburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held yesterday afternoon, Mr J 0. N. Grlgg, President, m the oheir. The treasurer of the Ashburton Hospital Board wrote, acknowledging the receipt of £3 3a from tbe Society, being tbe amount of a special prize gtfned by Mr Max FriedUndor at the last show, which had boen withheld m dispu'e, but was finally awarded to Mr Friedlandor, who had presented it to the Hospital. The Farmers' Oo operative Association, Lhria'charch, wrote, offering a donation of five guineas to the prize fund, to be allotted by the Oommiitee. After some diaouasion it was decided on the motion of Mr Peter Williams, fco give three guineas to the largest piize-f&ker m sheep, and two guineas for the best draught entire, Judges and marshals ffftre appointed for the various classes. Me W. Strachan strongly advocated givng prizes m the implement classes, with a view of enoouraging the home manufacturer as muoh as possible. The suggestion did not meet with muoh favor. It was decided that of Mr W. 0. Waiker's special pr'zu of £6 6s, £3 3i be given for tbe latest and Dent improve* ment m laboe saving machinery, and £2 2s for the leaping matoh.
