-Napike, September ,17. The Eduoation Board to-day resolved that application be made to tbe Minister for Eduoation at the earliest possible date, for the building grant to be allocated, as the Board has overdrawn £2000, with no money for necessary repairs. Many schools aro falling to places for want of repairs, and there. Ib no money in hand to ereot schools where urgently needed. AU demands from Sohool Committees for monoy are postponed pending the Minister',reply. Many children are unable to be admitted to sohools for want of room.
Investors Shy. Naw Pl-mouth, September- 17; The period for receiving tenders for the Borough loan of £29,000, to pay off tbe loan which' expires in June, 1890, and which the Borough hoped to float iu the colonies at 5 per oent, closed on Saturday. No tenders were received.
Aquatic. Wellington, September 17. Hearn's friends are bestirring thomselvea in his interest, and arranging means for providing the necessary stake for his race with Stephenson, At present the Wanganui river is tulked of as a probable ocale.
