ASHBURTON BOROUCH SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The BortftJgb School Committee met last evening, Present : Messrs W, J. SHoook (Chairman), R. 8. Bean, W. H Kneeo, J. Porter, md B. J Paul. Correspondence wa«f read from the Board ef Education enclosing copies of • patciotio hymn. The hymns had been handed to Mr Mayne for (he use of tho ■ohooL children, Letters from the Board were also read with referenoe to the calling for tenders tor repalta to the master's home and alterations to the Infant sohool : re the visit to Aihbarton by the clerk of worki ; and re the annual examination, (stating that Mr Wood frould inipeot the school on September 16tb). From the Bey E. A. Soott applying for permission to nse the school for religions instructions. Consideration of the tetter was deferred to a later stage, The masters report was read, giving the following particular »: — Tgombei on roll, boyi , 188 ; girl*, 190 ; total 378 : strict average, boys 166-5; girls 157-9 ; total, 314-4; highest attendance, boys 171 ; girls 172 ; total 343 A number of appliances were applied for, and the necessity for iome repalra and altetatlons pointed out. The visiting Committee roported that certain' repairs to the sohool fence ware urgently seeded. Also that a drain at iho masters house wanted seeing to. Dn the motion of J£r Eneen It was deetted that the drain be b?«B to at onoe. He htauelf Intended to have C" lfi « the Committee's attention to the neoeiaity" °' getting the drain put In order, and I thought that In future the visiting Committee should ba empowered to at onoe dsal with any matters affecting the lanitary condition ef the sohool premises, It was deolded that the Chairman and the cohool mastei be authorised to procure some absentee formt, and also somo teachers' Inkstands. Leave was givoa the Chairman to hold over till tbs next meeting Ma notice of motion with reference to the Bible reading In schools. Consideration of the Boy K. A. Scott's application for the use of the ■ehool was also left m abeyance till next meeting. _„________
