BANQUET TO THE GOVERNOR.

Weljjngtqn, September 1 The Governor was entertained at a banqaet m the Legislative Oounoil, on Saturday night, by members of the Oounoil. Th.re were thirty-five gentlemen present, lnoluding the guest of the evening, the Fremler. Colonial Seoretary, and Ministers for Defence, Pnblio Works andLande, tbe Hon E.O. J. Stevens, and a number of members of the Oounoil. Sir P. Whltaker was unavoidably absent, being Indisposed j and the Hon Bobcrt C»mpbell was also prevented by illness from taking part. The chair was oooupled by|Sr William Pita lerbert (Speaker), aud tho vloe-ohalr by C»ptaln Bsillie (Chairman of Oommltteee, who during the evening proposed and seoonded Hia Excellency's health. Lord On.lov*, In responding, mado a very able speech, m the oourse of whioh he expressed warm appreciation of the sympathy ahown with blm and Lady Ouslow during tho recent illness of Lord Oranley, and expressed In telegrams roo&lved from a 1 ! parta of the colony.
