ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET
MR D. THOMAS. Mr D; Thomas (late of Matson, Cox and Co) reports upon the Live Stock market for the Ashbarton District for the week end ng August 27th as follows :— On Tuesday at the Tinwald yards I hsld my usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle and pigs, There was a total entry for the day of about 4000 sheep, 30 head of catHe arid 10 pigs of which I had for sale 1847 sheep, 15 cattle and 8 pigs. The attendance was a small one and the competition for sheep poor and several lines were passed m. In cattle for fat heifers and steers the competition was brisk and everything m fair condition was sold at a marked advance, The following were the prices realised' Fat crossbred ewes us 3d ; medium do, 9s, gs id, to 9s iod ; mixed merino ewes and wethers, Bs, o.d } a line of 2- tooth wethers, 14s 6d. In store, 2 and 4«tooth ewes and wethers, ios j crossbred hoggets, 9a to 9s 3d ; merino wethsrs, 4s 6d. In cattle, light weight heifers, £$ 2s 6d, £5 Ss,£s gs to £6 ios : steers, £5 os; springers, £$ 17s 6d to £5. Smalt pigs 12s.
