THE IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT
London, August 30. Parliament has been prorogued till November 16. The Speech from the Throne was to the effect that the relations of England with the other Powers were most cordial, and was confident that an uabroken peace m Europe would be maintained. At the suggestion of England, King Leopold of Belgium had convened a conference of European powers to be held at Brussels m the autumn for the purpose of arresting the slave trade. The boundaries of the English and French colonies m West Africa had been adjusted. Much regret was expressed that the pressure of time had prevented the passage of the Bill providing responsible government for Western Australia, but it was hoped that this very desirable object would be effected at an early period. Signs of renewing prosperity m trade were every where discernible.
