THE "CENTENNIAL" SUNK.

Sydnby, August 2t One of the saloon passengers of the ill-fated steamer Centennial lost ;£Bo m gold, which was m his cabin, and which he was uoable to secure, owing io the rapid sinking of the vessel. Another passenger lost all his savings. In addition to the names of the pas- . sengers already telegraphed the Centennial had thirty-one m the steerage. Sydney, Auguzt 25 , Further enquiries made into the sinking of the steamer Centennial show i that Sargeant, the chief cook, and i Riddle, a fireman, are reported missing. • The two men were m their bunks at the ' time of the mishap. As their apart* \ ments were situated near the spot where I vessel was cut down, it is believed they I were crushed to death. One of the , steerage passengers is reported to be I lost, but the information lacks confirma--5 tion. 9 Some of the passengers by the ill fated ' steamer are rendered quite destitute, - and one passenger asserts that 250 t sovereigns whioh he had hoarded up f went down m the vessel.
