ATTACK ON A JUDGE.
New TTobk, Aaguit 16 Mr Terry, a barrister of California, struck Chief Justice Field at the railway station, Lathrop, and DeputyMarshal Nagle shot him dead. Terry was angry at the Judge committing him for contempt m the Sharon case m 1887. Terry's purpose was suspected, and Deputy-Marshal Nagle was authorised to defend Judge Field. At the inquest Nagle was found guilty of shooting, but will probably be acquitted. Terry's wife was Althea Hill, who claimed to have been married to Senator Sharon, and brought a suit against him which lasted for a considerable time, and excited great interest m California. She threatens revenge for the death of her husband, and has since issued a warrant against Judge I Field, whom she accuses of complicity.
